Car radios that play music off USB flash memory drive

Often we carry flash keys to eachother's houses, or from work and back as easy means of transferring files and music. Why don't they make a car radio with a front USB port so you can just plug in a standard flash memory drive with your own music on it. Then the radio would be smart enough to traverse the folders and play the music like it would if it were on a standard CD.CD's are just to permanant, you burn them and that's it, can't change. Flash keys would be easier to carry than MP3 players, and less valuable in the case of theft.

been done. I had a BMW with this and it was pretty awesome. It'll just take time for the technology to move down into more affordable sets.

Take this a step further, what about removable memory for portable MP3 players too? If your car and MP3 player took the same type of media, for example a MINI SD card, you could play your music on either by just sliding your card in. Also, if the memory card was removable on portable players, you could upgrade the capacity by simply buying a new card, without having to replace the whole IPOD for example.



Some TV's have a card slot in the front, so theoretically if the same media size was used, that one card with all your music, videos and pictures on it could be used in your car, portable player, TV, computer, etc.

I think this has already been done. Try to put another spin on the USB device. There should be other usefull ways to use them.

Haha USB keys to take over the world!! Actually I see some software companies are starting to sell their software on a key.
