CDs on a junk drive
Posted 10/12/2009 by JustAThought in Albums | Submit idea in this category
A few years ago, Nine Inch Nails released a song (or a few songs) on a pro tools session. I thought this was beyond innovative as they gave their listeners a chance to mix the NIN songs on their own.

This made me wonder why more bands aren't jumping on creative ways like NIN did to push their albums (since the music industry can obviously use a boost in sales). Stop me if this already exists, but why not release an entire album on a junk drive? We all end up having to rip the CD onto our computers anyway, so why not simply put them on a drive so we can quickly import the files into our itunes?

Different packaging and unique ideas like this may be something the labels need to help their sales and also keep up with the current technology.

Conan O'Brien had a musical guest about two weeks ago demo-ing something similar to what you're talking about. Check the episodes of the Tonight Show past and you should be able to figure out who it was. He was middle-aged, well-known (except by me apparently), and normally performed Rock music (classic rock I think).
How helpful was this?
