New School/ Entrepreneurship Incubator
Posted 05/13/2010 by rchatterton in Entertainment | Submit idea in this category
I want to start a school that is less teacher driven and more student driven. Where we come together, still in a brick and mortar building, but instead of learning a specific topic we discuss ideas for a while and then branch off into groups and start employing specific skills we have to make them happen. A place where we go to learn what is relevant to our interests and our aspirations and at the same time apply them in the real world. Learning by doing. We may test out our ideas for a few weeks and then decide we don't like it and try something else. The idea is that it should be cheap, flexible, and fun to learn how to do whatever we want to do. Think business incubator meets university. We learn the necessary skills as we go, but we have tangible results.

You're dead on with changing the schools. Most are far behind the curve in the world's educational ranks. This may sound crude, but I believe schools should develop a curriculum based upon how to make a buck in the thing you love to do. How to market yourself in the world economy, starting at a young age. By the time you graduate high-school, your course would be more certain.
