Uniting firefighters, police officers and soldiers
Posted 07/05/2010 by 911patchproject in Personal Safety | Submit idea in this category
Following the tragic events of 9/11, I wanted to find a way to bring everyone back together and create unity at one of the worst times in America. The idea started as a uniform patch for all firefighters--a common patch that doubles as a memorial to the events of 9/11 and one uniform patch that all firefighters, police officers and soldiers can wear in solidarity.

The project has run well for the past 9 years and funds from the sale of patches have also been donated to several related non-profits.

Although the project started as a memorial to firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11, it became important to our u.s. military stationed over seas and even our nations law enforcement. So a new patch design came out with the 5 Year anniversary of 9/11 that bears the images of all three.

With the 10 Year 9/11 Anniversary upon us I want to go BIG with the project. One of the ideas I had was for all U.S. sporting teams (amateur and professional) to wear the new 10 Year 9/11 Anniversary patch on their jerseys in honor of the 10 year mark and as a tribute to our nations defenders. I am even considering creating full size flags with the 9/11 Patch graphic on them.

Do you collect patches from all departments, or just put out a new 9/11 patch every year? If you collect them, what about a mosaic that can only be truly seen from a distance, kinda like this? It would surely get a ton of attention and recognition, possibly even donations for families or funds.
