Customizable vintage posters
Posted 07/12/2008 by sleev in Small Business Ideas | Submit idea in this category
So I have access to an oversize color printer, and am always trying to come up with ways to make extra$  I was thinking about those vintage posters you see all the time like this: only personalize them for each customer to have maybe their family name and various color schemes.  I could also create a lot of my own so there are no copyright issues. I guess one of my questions for people reading this would be: how much would you pay for something like that?

Well, this seems to depend on having what someone else doesn't.  If they don't have the equipment you do, then they may be willing to pay for your service.  The idea of customized posters is sort of cool, but a person can get customized postage stamsp, customized books - there are companies which offer this already, and they're sort of your competition.

That's what bothers me about your idea.

I agree with zboston3. It is something thats been done. Depends a lot on your core market, and the availability or viability of your competing services to them. Also, Just a name or family reference isnt enough to get people to pay up. Designing something unique, and unusual is what people often cough up the bucks for. So, how customized are you willing to go, and what is the skillset you are providing. And what gives you an edge over your competition. Understand, that customized screen prints are also available on the net. A more authentic option to a computer print.

At first glance I have no interest in this idea at all, but then again my home is very sparsely decorated and the only posters I have are movie posters in my office. I feel I may be missing something. Perhaps if you do pursue this, you offer people like me a page of your web site explaining and educating on the aesthetic benefits of your product and how to use it effectively.
