Touch Screen Menus
Posted 7 months ago by RexJB in Hardware | Submit idea in this category
Stop me if this already exists, but why not have touch screen menus set up at restaurant tables. That way, when you are seated, you can browse around the menu and order at your leisure. You can basically just add the item you want to a "cart", and the order would be sent directly to the kitchen computer (similar to fast food kitchens). The wait staff can then bring it to you once it's ready.

Wow! I was just thinking small with tablet PC menus. Joe's idea would make the whole table a working menu. That is awesome!

I guess posting the link didnt work. But have you heard of Microsoft's "Surface" technology? It's a similar concept.

sarossell (7 months ago): The link looks ugly but it works. Nice find too! Microsoft Surface is cool. I didn't know Sheraton Hotels had it running.

Jack-in-the-Box is trying this out right now with their Kiosks. It's really cool and it allows you to actually find and make choices you wouldn't ordinarily know you could do. With tablet PC's and $99 laptops finally hitting the market, it's probably just a matter of time before nicer restaurants catch on to this idea. I love it. The tablet menu could be a simple wireless connection to a web site with cart functions. Brilliant.
