Get adult sites off .COM and give them their own domain extension
Posted 04/04/2008 by eric in New website ideas | Submit idea in this category
They have so many different domain extensions now for websites like .com, .net, .info, .org... etc. Why don't they get all adult websites off the .COM domain extension and give them their own? Like www.site.adlt or whatever. This way, parental controls for browsers would be that much easier, good domain names on the .COM would open up for non-adult web designers, and it would give avid adult website visitors their own haven / playground. Hell, it's hard enough to find a good .COM name that's not already taken, and wtih the huge number of adult sites out there, the task is just that much more difficult.

"Lawley says he thinks the new address could easily attract at least 500,000 sites, making it after ".mobi" the second biggest sponsored top-level domain name."

This should have happened years ago but ICANN shot it down

It's a good idea which I've thought of before but as has been mentioned, how to enforce it? Especially with sites located in other countries. It would take an international law and board to enforce this and as much as I love this idea, I don't want an internet regulations board established anywhere.

I believe the idea was presented, but I don't think it's out there, see this article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12728784/

It was rebuked.

The problem is defining "pornography", what is and isn't considered pornagraphic.  I think it's a pretty good idea, as long as it is voluntary.

They already did this. There is a .xxx domain that adult websites can use.  Making them use it, of course, is another problem entirely. I think adult websites using a .xxx domain increased their findability, really, by the people they want to find them, while giving filters a very easy way to filter out adult content.

So yeah, it's out there. Now lets force implementation.

sounds good but i think the legalities are so tough how would you get them to take there business over to those other extensions?

I agree though it would be great to push those over but i think in all honestly they could keep the .com for simple advertising to thier new .adlt sites.
