It seems that destruction on the homeland, namely New York City, has been a popular theme for movies lately, from the latest
Godzilla and its sister movie
Cloverfield to
The Day After Tomorrow and
I Am Legend. It's entertaining, scary, and lets just say it works in the modern day Hollywood where original scripts are hard to come by as it is.
Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is a video game that explores an Alternate History idea of "what if World War II went differently." Alternate History is great, and there's a ton of Alternate History books out there but not many movies.
I'd be excited to see an Alternate History movie using modern CGI and other special effects to explore the idea of "What if America got invaded?" It could take place, like the video game, in the WWII error, or even modern day. Maybe a terrorist plot that went further than a BOOM followed by shock and awe. Maybe after the BOOM, they went a step further in deploying embedded foot soldiers to take advantage of our vulnerabilities after a catastrophe.
A war on American soil hasn't really been fully explored by Hollywood yet - there's a lot of room for play there.
