What happened to education being the most important thing?

I'm sure in this state that spends billions of dollars a year, our elected officials could find some other area to cut funding in.

If you run after your weight training, it feels like all your energy has already been spent and vice versa. Looking to do something to integrate both worlds using a superset routine. Maybe a set of inclined bench followed by reverse situps for your lower back (if you're doing opposing muscle supersets)? Something along the lines mixing cardio and weights into a single session....

What the fuck is a Na'vi?

I'd like to see more Unobtainium-plundering humans for Halloween this year. That's an order, soldier! If you're gonna have any chance of getting through those hoards of deadly blue cat-people, you might want to start constructing your Amp-suit now. And just in case you fall in love with your Na'vi prey in a cruel twist of fate, your cockpit could double as a backseat for hot ponytail-to-ponytail action. If you don't understand this idea, you haven't seen Avatar.

Game Shows - Let's Split the Prize

How about a game show that allows home viewers to "invest" in the contestant, so that everyone can get a piece of the pie. The viewer would call a hotline provided by the show and pay a fee with their credit card. The more people that call in prior to the show, the higher the "viewer pot" is, which can be shown somewhere on the screen during the game. If the contestant wins, you would win a portion of the "viewer pot". This would make watching the gameshow more interesting since the outcome effects you rather than just some random stranger on TV, therefore being a sure ratings grabber.

Radar detector built into GPS

I'm a big fan of consolidating devices. I'll be glad to see the day when our phone's are also our digital media players (without sacrifice to battery life), all USB charging cables for cell phones are standardized and when our car GPS devices can double as a radar detector. Too many single-function gadgets out there, it's the year 2010 and it's time to consolidate.

Eco-Gym

Many times I've thought while walking past these massive 24-hour gyms in Manhattan, seeing folks slave away on elliptical machines and treadmills, "what a waste of energy!" I'm not sure how the math works out, but someone (not me) should use that wasted power by starting a gym where all the energy expended during these workouts is stored for reuse. If humans found a way to reuse the energy they spend during exercise, it might lead to a healthier culture with cheaper energy. I envision a world where this practice becomes so standard that people could have energy bank accounts where they can build up credit by pumping iron, using a row machine, or spinning wheels on a stationary bike. You could pay your gym membership just by working out there, and any surplus could be deducted from your electric bill, or redeemed with cash back. The owner of these gyms would be generating so much power, they could run the whole building year round, and if we had enough of them, we could run the whole city and stay fit doing it!

St. Patrick's Day Party

Hosting a party for St. Patrick's Day, and looking for some Irish recipe ideas. We usually do the bar thing every year, but changing it up a little and don't want to disappoint the guests. Already got the corn beef and cabbage covered along with the Guinness, so I'm open to any and all suggestions. Also, any unique suggestions on how to "Irish" the place up aside from the standard clovers and green hats are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Things that go splash in the night

My idea is for a light on the inside of a toilet. So many times I don't want to turn on the light in the bathroom in the middle of the night. How about a light (LED) around the edge of the bowl, or on the inside of the lid. When you pick the lid up, it lights up the inside of the bowl. If you use an LED it will be just light enough to see, but not so bright as a room light. Or has anyone seen something on the market like this?

Plastic license plate covers

I thought about getting plastic and add a little shock thing a ma jig to it covering your licenses plate with the plastic whenever anyone would try to steal the plates it would shock them not kill just little off a jolt. As I watched a few runs, I started to think of an alternate way to compete in this event. Rather than go down one at a time and check their timings, what if they build parallel tracks allowing 2 or 3 teams to simultaneously run the course? It would be exciting to watch a few bobsleds racing down 90mph against each other, and would also make for dramatic finishes. This wouldn't be too different from the snowboarding and ski races that already exist.

Automatic Sidewalks

I love the idea of building sidewalks that are above street level in like plexiglass tubes with conveyor belt sidewalks. They would be heated and cooled, as well as, keep pedestrians off the streets where they can be injured by motor vehicles.

Thin, crispy pretzel recipe needed

I've made pretzels at home before, and boy do they blow up like balloons. My favorite snack has always been the thin, crispy pretzels like you would buy in a store. I need something hard and crunchy and about 1/3" - 1/2" in diameter.

When I look at the ingredients in store-bought pretzels, they use only baking soda, not yeast. I wonder if that's the key...

RECIPES NEEDED!

Diet does NOT mean deprive!

I firmly believe that many "diets" fail simply because they deprive you of the foods you really enjoy. Why deprive yourself of those french fries or that burrito if you really want one? There's nothing wrong with treating yourself to fried foods and rich desserts as long as you take accountability for the rest of what you put into your body during the day.

Success in diet is all about planning. If you know you're going to have a glass of wine with dinner, you can compensate by having a lighter lunch or forgoing the mid-day snack.

Better yet, go ahead and have it all...just go to the gym and work for it first! Put in a 30 minute, high intensity workout and you can reward yourself with that cookie or that piece of warm bread with butter slathered atop. Mmmmm....

Gastrobypass is cheating!

I have lost nearly 50 pounds since January of 2009 and expect to lose another 40 before the end of 2010. How'd I do this, you ask? I changed my life style! I stopped over eating and started to get off of my lazy butt and doing some exercising. I find it amazing how many people (even within my own family) would rather mutilate their bodies rather than train themselves to eat less and exercise more.

America does not have an epidemic of obesity...we have an epidemic of laziness and poor choices. I say we do away with gastrobypass and make these people take responsibility for their actions and lack of control. They are cheating themselves if take this "easy route", as they have learned nothing. Old habits will return, as will the fat!

Homelessness....a choice?

I read a book recently called, "The Glass Castle" (by Jeannette Walls). It is made up of the memoirs of the author who was raised dirt poor by an alcoholic father and an irresponsible mother. In the end, she became a very successful writer and her parents ended up homeless on the streets of New York City. As much as she tried to help her parents get off of the street, they insisted they were happy and living the lives they wanted to live. Free of responsibility.

Her father seemed to be very intelligent and her mother was a certified school teacher, yet they both chose not to work. Instead, they chose to live off of the charity of society. I find this to be a very selfish act.

Call me callus and cold, but I think that if someone chooses to be homeless then they should take ownership of their decision and not depend on the charity of others! Make them eat out of the trash cans of restaurants and huddle up under the freeways to sleep. They chose that life!

Perhaps churches and other such charities should perform interviews of the homeless that come to take advantage of their offerings to find out who is in real need and who is just choosing not to take care of themselves.

We're looking to have our honeymoon on the western coast near Naples. We'd like to somehow incorporate Capri, Mt. Vesuvius and possibly even the Amalfi Coast somehow.

I'm looking for input or ideas from anyone who has experience in that region, maybe some ideas on how to plan it, where to stay, where to visit? Should we plan it ourselves or get help from an agent?

Child Labor or Parental Restitution?

Consider the possibility that a child under the age of consent (17 or younger) commits a felony. Do you convict the child as an adult, convict the parents, or both? I would like to see the person who committed the crime have to pay restitution to the victim through paid labor at market value until the debt is paid. And if it's murder, then the penalty to life long restitution to the family of the victim. What do you think?

FM Transmitter built into portable MP3 (PMP) Players

I've been using a plug-and-play FM Transmitter to pump my MP3 player's music through my car speakers for years, being that my car radio doesn't have any tape player or auxiliary inputs.

With the new iPod and Zune's both being equipped with wireless access, and the Zune even having HD Radio, how hard would it be to put a simple FM Transmitter built into the devices so you could output the audio to any speaker set as long as it has a radio.

(I realize the downside would be loss of income from docking stations and proprietary output cables)
