Digital library made easy with bar code reader
Posted 9 months ago by Stevo in Software | Submit idea in this category
It would be easy to scan all the bar codes of my books or dvds to create a digital library - I would even allow Amazon to scan it to provide me with suggestions. If I can also rate my books the suggestions will become even more accurate.

There used to be a hand-held scanner sold by Radio Shack, but they stopped selling it. However, you might be able to find one real cheap on eBay. And Amazon will allow you to keep multiple lists of items (movies, books, whatever). Now connecting the bar code reader to a code that finds the item on Amazon automatically... I do know that you can enter the ISBN of a book into the Amazon search and it will find it that way!

Wat about a website that keeps track of these personal inventories to offer a "book-swap" type of service.

I have tons of books and movies that I've collected throughout the years. Most of them just sit on shelves with no track of what I have.

That would be a great feature that amazon could add on. So we would just punch in the SKU numbers (provided we originally bought the book/dvd from amazon) and they would keep an online library in our accounts. Would even be better if they would allow us to export our personal libraries to excel sheets so we can keep an offline record.
